Chiacchiere con Chiara : Zane Zeltina – Viene da lontano Zane, dalla capitale della Lettonia, la bella città di Riga, ma Zane Zeltina è..italiana nel cuore. E’ questo il nome del suo profilo Instagram . L’intervista di oggi non è su zoom ma..direttamente a casa sua! Davanti a due tazzine di caffè!
Ma cosa ha spinto questa ragazza a venire in Italia? L’amore per l’arte, la bellezza , i colori , certamente perché Zane è una pittrice. Nei suoi quadri solo Italia…da tutti i punti di vista, in tutte le stagioni! Nella sua cucina, circondate dai suoi quadri, Zane mi ha aperto il suo cuore… Ci racconta nella sua intervista come è arrivata in Italia e cosa significa per lei .
(EN) She comes from faraway, from Riga, the capital city of Latvia, but Zane is “Italian at heart”. This is in fact the name she has chosen for her Instagram profile . Today’s interview is not on Zoom. Today I am with Zane in her kitchen! Chatting in front of two cups of coffees. But what prompted this girl to come to Italy? The love of art, beauty, colors, certainly because Zane is a painter. We can see Italy allover in her paintings…from all points of view, in every seasons!

“La mia storia con l’Italia è molto lunga, è cominciata quando ero piccola, avevo forse 8 anni. Ho detto ai miei genitori che un giorno sarei andata a vivere in Italia . L’Italia è l’amore della mia vita!
(EN) “My story with Italy is very long, it began when I was little, I was maybe 8 years old. I told my parents that one day I would go and live in Italy. Italy is the love of my life!
Prima di venire a Siena dove sei stata?/ Where were you before coming to Siena?
Sono stata in Liguria, a Chiavari perché ho fatto lì dei corsi di pittura, ho vissuto a Pigna , un piccolo paesino e sono davvero innamorata di questa regione. Dopo sono tornata in Lettonia ma sentivo che non ero felice , che il mio cuore era in Italia, Così ho cercato lavoro e questa volta il lavoro mi ha portata a Siena , in Toscana , da Chiara dove ci siamo incontrate
(EN) I’ve been to Liguria, to Chiavari because I took painting courses there, I lived in Pigna, a small village and I’m really in love with this region. After I returned to Latvia but I felt that I was not happy, that my heart was in Italy, so I looked for work and this time the work took me to Siena, Tuscany, to Chiara where we met.
Ma tu quando sei arrivata a Siena già parlavi molto bene italiano. Quando hai cominciato a studiare?/ When you arrived in Siena you already spoke Italian very well. When did you start studying?
Ho cominciato a studiare in Lettonia, 10 anni fa, non di continuo; ho fatto dei corsi in una scuola di italiano a Riga, per 2 anni e poi ho iniziato a viaggiare nelle mie vacanze per fare pratica. La mia motivazione era la cosa più importante.
(EN) I started studying in Latvia, 10 years ago, not all the time; I did courses in an Italian school in Riga for 2 years and then I started traveling on my holidays to practice. My motivation was the most important thing.
Oltre al corso di italiano , tu nel tempo libero cosa facevi per esercitarti?/ In addition to the Italian course, what did you do in your spare time to practice?
Allora, la mia ricetta era molto classica. Io studiavo e studiavo tanto e con passione. nel gruppo a scuola avevamo cominciato in 15 (quindici) poi, a metà anno, eravamo due poi a alla fine ero sola.. la mia ricetta è che avevo veramente tanto amore, passione per questa lingua.
(EN) Back then, my recipe was very classic. I studied and studied a lot and with passion. in the group at school we started in 15 then, in the middle of the year, we were just tw , then at the end, I was alone.. my recipe is that I really had a lot of love, passion for this language.
L’italiano è davvero una lingua che si impara per passione. Molte persone mi dicono questo/ Italian is truly a language that is learned as a passion. Many people tell me this all the time.
Si esatto. Io studiavo cinque volte alla settimana , due volte a scuola e poi tre giorni da sola a casa- Ascoltavo anche la musica e la mia motivazione era fortissima perché io volevo andare, trasferirmi in Italia. Viaggiare e vivere lì era il mio obiettivo.
Avevo anche messo davanti la scrivania una foto della Toscana e questo mi aiutava a darmi la motivazione per studiare, quando tutti erano fuori al mare in vacanza , io studiavo perché quella foto mi ricordava che io dovevo andare a vivere in italia! 
Una motivazione fortissima, personale dentro di me.
(EN) Yes exactly. I used to study five times a week, twice at school and then three days at home. I also listened to music and my motivation was very strong because I just wanted to go, to move to Italy. Traveling and living there was my goal. I also placed a photo of Tuscany in front of my desk and this helped me to give myself the motivation to study, when everyone was out at the beach on vacation, I studied because that photo reminded me that I had to go and live in Italy! A very strong personal motivation, inside me.
Tu quando parli in italiano, una lingua così diversa dalla tua lingua originale, ti senti in qualche modo diversa? / When you speak Italian, a language so different from your original language, do you feel somehow different?
Sì, mi sento molto differente, non solo tra lettone e italiano. Anche quando parlo inglese mi sento diversa. Per esempio a Siena parlo molto in inglese con i turisti. Ogni giorno uso 3 lingue. Mi sento molto diversa quando parlo italiano e inglese, mi sembra che le persone mi percepiscano come un’altra persona. Anche adesso quando parlo inglese o lettone mi dicono che ho un accento un po’ italiano.
(EN) Yes, I feel very different, not only between Latvian and Italian. Even when I speak English I feel different. For example in Siena I speak a lot of English with tourists. Every day I use 3 languages. I feel very different when I speak Italian and English, it seems to me that people perceive me as another person. Even now when I speak English or Latvian they tell me that I have a bit of an Italian accent.
Cosa ti ispira Zane per i tuoi quadri? La vespa, la cinquecento..vedo spesso nei tuoi quadri./ What is the inspiration for your paintings?
Io dipingo l’Italia sempre, Infatti un giorno una giornalista mi ha fatto un ‘intervista e il titolo è stato ”la ragazza che dipinge l’Italia”, paesaggi di tutti i posti dove vado ed i simboli dell’Italia.
(EN) I always paint Italy, in fact one day a journalist gave me an interview and the title was “the girl who paints Italy”, landscapes of all the places I go and the symbols of Italy.
Fra le parole italiane, ce n’è una che ti piace particolarmente?/ Among the Italian words, is there one that you particularly like?
Si ce n’è una: FIDUCIA . In particolare l’espressione DI FIDUCIA. La prima volta l’ho sentita alla radio in Liguria e mi è piaciuta tantissimo : c’è un negozio di fiducia , e poi ho iniziato a sentirla sempre di più : ora ho il mio bar di fiducia, la gelateria di fiducia , la gioielleria di fiducia….tutto di fiducia. Questa espressione proprio l’adoro!
(EN) Yes there is one: TRUST = FIDUCIA. In particular the expression DI FIDUCIA , trustworthy. The first time I heard it on the radio in Liguria and I loved it: they talked about a trusted shop, then I started hearing it more and more: now I have my person of trust, my trusted bar, my trusted ice cream parlor ….. I really love this expression!
Ti senti accolta , ti senti a casa in Italia?/ Do you feel welcomed, do you feel at home in Italy?
Si, moltissimo. Ma non tanto fisicamente, con le persone, piuttosto è la mia anima si sente a casa in questo paese . Quando arrivo mi sento a casa! (fuori dall’intervista Zane mi ha raccontato che non tutte le esperienze fatte in Italia sono state sempre positive, ma è il suo cuore che si sente bene quando è in Italia)
(EN) Yes a lot. Not so much physically,it is rather my soul that feels at home in this country. As soon as I arrive here, I feel at home! (outside the interview Zane told me that not all experiences in Italy have always been positive, but it is her heart that feels good when she is in Italy)
Questa è una bella cosa. Me l’hanno raccontata molte persone che , una volta in Italia si sono sentite bene, a proprio agio, tranquille , “a casa”, in un posto “di fiducia” – Un ultimo consiglio per imparare l’italiano?/ This is a beautiful thing. Many people have told me that – One last piece of advice for learning Italian?
Io penso che bisogna prima iniziare con una struttura, un corso, ma poi per me era importante avere persone che parlavano con me in italiano, fare conversazione , senza fermarmi per ogni errore. Avevo un amico che mi ha detto “ anche se non sai qualcosa devi continuare a dire le cose anche sbagliando. Non devi essere perfetta , anche se dici qualcosa diverso è bello perché è tuo, l’errore è una cosa da apprezzare. Trovare il modo di comunicare anche inventando qualche volta.
(EN) I think that you must first start with a structure, a course, but then it was important for me to have people who spoke to me in Italian, to have a conversation, without stopping for every mistake. I had a friend who once told me: “even if you don’t know something you have to keep saying things even if you’re wrong. You don’t have to be perfect, even if you say something different it’s beautiful because it’s yours, the mistake is something to appreciate. Finding a way to communicate even by inventing, sometimes.
